Subject:  Is Divorce Biblical?
Divorce occours in the church because of man's sinful condition. Man is in a state of rebellion. Very few so called christians are willing to live a life of obedience to the word of God.The command in Matt. 7:13 says "enter by the narrow gate" This text says the narrow gate leads to life and few find it and the broad is the way that leads to destruction and many go into it. No wonder the divorce rate among church goers and non church goers is identical. The reason is simple:Most people on the church roll may not be regenerated. They have entered by the broad gate that leads to destruction. Those that have entered by the narrow gate will be obedient to God's word. The one that has entered by the narrow will tremble and fear the commands of God in his word. They will pursue Holyness. They will let the word of Christ dwell richly in them. They will seek God's kingdom and His righteousness. They will hate sin. The one that has entered by the narrow gate is unable to live a life of continious sinfullness.A true believer is most misrable walking in disobedience to the clear teaching of scripture. Divorce is not biblical. God is the one doing the joining and man is one doing the separating. In Gen. 2:24 God's word say "a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall be become one flesh." The word, "joined" is word that implies permenancy. This word is a technical word that can be used of the joining of two pieces of metal by welding. The pieces can not be separated without damaging both pieces. What God has joined together let not man put assunder. Divorce is not biblical because Eph 5 likens the relationship between a man and a woman to that of Christ and the Church. By the word Church I mean the eternal church made up of regenerate persons and not the local assembly of people that meet on a sunday morning. There are some in this local assembly that part of the ekklesia. In humble opinion, and what I believe the scripture teaches, a large portion of the local assembly is not saved bacause narrow is way that leads to life and few find it and broad is the way that leads to destuction and many go in to it. This is why the divorce rate in the church is identical to that outside the church. An unsaved person cannot live in obedience to the commands of God. Divorce is not biblical but man's heart is hard and need of regeneration. It breaks my heart but this is the state of affairs and lets keep praying.
